Former Mayor of Havering, Melvin Wallace, has resigned from his position within the Romford Conservatives, after the party said he should be expelled.
The Squirrel’s Heath ward councillor has stood down from the party following an allegation of sexual harassment against him.
It was investigated by the Conservative Party after a complaint was made in May 2017.
A Conservative Disciplinary Sub-Committee met in October and later recommended Cllr Wallace be expelled, saying his behaviour had “damaged the reputation of Conservative Councillors who would regard his conduct as totally unacceptable and intolerable.”
Romford’s Conservative group met on Monday and discussed the recommendation.
Time 107.5 understands no decision was made but clarification and legal advice was sought.
But Mr Wallace has since resigned and will now sit as an independent councillor.
He has been approached for comment.Tags: Romford, Havering, Conservative Party, Melvin Wallace
