£10,000 reward offered on anniversary of Newham shooting

Police have issued an anniversary appeal after a man was shot in the head in West Ham.

Detectives are offering a £10,000 reward for information that leads to the identification, arrest and prosecution of someone involved in the attack.

A year ago today, a victim in his 20s was driving down Romford Road when at least one armed man opened fire on him at around 10.30pm.

The suspects are believed to have driven into the area in a silver Lexus with an index of AY52 CKD.

“My officers are continuing to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting. I know that there are witnesses to the incident who have yet to come forward,” said Detective Inspector Simon Smith.

“I would appeal to anyone who remembers seeing this car in the Vicarage Lane and Romford Road areas on the evening of Sunday, 21 January last year, or knows where the vehicle is now, to contact us.

“Your information – no matter how insignificant you think it may be – could help take a dangerous criminal off the street and you may be eligible for a reward.”

So far two men, a 19-year-old and 20-year-old, have both been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They have been released under investigation.

The victim survived but suffered life-changing head injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any information can contact the incident room on 020 7230 9737 or via Twitter @MetCC. Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
