The Lord of the Rings actor took to the stage to carry out his humorous solo show on Sunday, 24 and Monday, 25 February.
It was part of his Ian Mckellen On Stage tour to celebrate his 80th birthday.
The two performances raised a total of £46,000 which will go towards the Theatre’s QNew Transformation Programme.
During the show, he discussed his experience on film sets, acted out a selection of Shakespeare speeches and even performed a sketch as a panto Dame.
McKellen has performed a variety of Shakespearean roles and is best known for his appearances as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and Magneto in X-Men.
“We’re so proud that Ian chose us as a venue to perform his once in a lifetime event, but even prouder that he came back to do the whole thing over again,” said Mathew Russell, Executive Director at Queen’s Theatre.
“It was one of the highlights of the theatre’s illustrious history.”
The QNew project is aimed at allowing the Theatre to work with young people and community groups as well as developing high quality performance spaces.
Queen’s Theatre has now been running for 65 years.Tags: Havering, Hornchurch, Ian McKellen
