Eighty firefighters were needed to control the inferno at its height. They’ve been on the scene overnight since responding to 15 calls from concerned residents at around 10.46pm.
“A large pile of metal and plastic was alight but the fire was outside rather than in any of the industrial units and we are ensuring it doesn’t spread,” said Station Manger Keith Carmichael.
“While it caused a lot of a smoke, it was a still night so the plume did not drift and the industrial estate is not close to any residential areas.”

Twelve fire engines attended the scene from Wennington, Barking and Hornchurch fire stations.
It was brought under control by 2.53am this morning.
Ferry Lane is still partially blocked in both directions with very slow traffic from the A13 (Ferry Lane Interchange) to Lamson Road.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.Tags: Rainham
