Jodie Chesney was stabbed in the back by a black male, who didn’t say a word before running off with a friend.
She passed away in an ambulance en route to hospital, and a post-mortem gave her cause of death as trauma and a haemorrhage.
Jodie had been in the park in Harold Hill, just off St Neot’s Road, with four friends and her boyfriend.
They were socialising and playing music, while aware that two other people were in the park.
The pair left at around 9pm but returned a short while later and randomly attacked Jodie.
The suspects ran off in the direction of Retford Road. No arrests have been made.
Lead investigator, DCI Dave Whellams, said: “I am appealing for any witnesses who have yet to speak with police to call me. There has been excellent support from the local community and a number of people have shared information with police, but there will be other witnesses and people with information that may prove crucial.
“Although the description of the suspect is limited, I am certain that people will have seen the two males hanging around the park or running away from the scene – or will otherwise have noticed something suspicious. I need those people to call me.”
