Snooker player Steve Davis spoke at a launch event for the awards.
Legendary snooker player, Steve Davis, launched the event at Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club last night, which urges businesses to put themselves forward for a number of awards.
It’s to celebrate the talented and innovative people working in the borough.
“Businesses gain a great deal from entering; they get to raise their profile and recognition for their achievements,” said Jamie Banks, Treasurer for the BDCC.
He advised people to “have a business plan in place.
“It needs to be concise and explain why you’re in business, what you’re doing and where you’re going.”
The event is open to businesses, organisations and self-employed individuals across the borough.
Entry is free; all applicants need to do is complete a form which can be found here.
Former winner, Donna Pike, from Party Box, says it’s a useful process.
“When you’re doing the application form, it gives you the chance to look at your business in ways you wouldn’t normally.”
There are three new categories this year: Employer of the Year, Employee of the Year and Home Grown Talent.
Several businesses are sponsoring one of the awards, including Time 107.5 who are backing Employer of the Year.
CU London is sponsoring the Business of the Year award.
They’re looking for “a business that cares about the borough, the people in the area and who are making sure they have the best service provider and expertise,” according to Conor Jackson, Head of Sales and Recruitment.
“We really want to try and engage with the individuals to show them what we can do to support their businesses and help grow the economy in the local area to improve peoples opportunities in terms of work or career progression,” he added.
Finalists will be invited to attend an event featuring a reception, dinner and presentation with 200 attendees.
The winners will receive an engraved trophy, framed certificate and be interviewed by Time 107.5.
Closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday, 10 May 2019.
