It had previously been said that two males were in Amy’s Park at the same time as Jodie and her friends last Friday evening.
One of them stabbed the 17-year-old in the back and the pair then ran off without saying a word.
Jodie’s dad Peter has paid tribute to her in his first interview.
Lead investigator DCI Dave Whellams today said: “I believe there’s more than two of them involved, possibly up to four, and that one of them is black and one of them is white.”
Meanwhile, a planned vigil in Harold Hill to honour Jodie has been postponed due to the police investigation into her death.

Investigators are going to be at the scene tomorrow evening as part of their appeals for anyone with information to come forward.
The planned vigil will now be held at around 7pm on Friday, 15 March.
Candles will be lit and purple balloons released to remember Jodie.
Tonight’s march in Romford is still set to go ahead.Tags: Romford, Havering, Harold Hill, Jodie Chesney
