Time 107.5 station manager, Lorna Waters, collected a trophy from Barry Hearn after we raised the most money for the hospice.
24 companies took part in the £50 Challenge, which asked them to raise as much money as possible with a budget of just £50.
Time 107.5 raised £6,551 through a series of initiatives.
Daytime show presenter Mark Dover was sponsored by listeners to lose weight. That received some big donations, including £500 given by Darren Griffiths from Stoneshaw Estates.
Mark was delighted to have raised so much money and can now fit into clothes that he hasn’t been able to wear for around two-and-a-half years.
We also held the Solid Gold Road Show at the Romford United Services Social Club. DJs Neil Andrews and Steve Dean entertained partygoers with a range of classic hits.
Time 107.5 listener Richelle Cook helped by having her head shaved at our studio in Romford.
Other initiatives, including auctions and raffles, were held as part of the challenge.
At an event at Saint Francis Hospice yesterday, it was revealed more than £17,000 was raised in total, with Time 107.5 and its listeners the biggest contributors to the total.
The radio station’s manager, Lorna Waters, attended and was presented with a certificate and trophy by the hospice’s patron, Barry Hearn.
“We have been amazed by the generosity of our listeners and we would like to thank everyone who helped us raise so much money,” Lorna said. “The £50 Challenge was a great initiative to be a part of and it is fantastic that so many local organisations helped Saint Francis Hospice.
“This money will go towards supporting the important work that the hospice does we are looking forward to taking part again next year.”
Adam Gordon from the hospice’s fundraising team thanked everyone who took part.
He told Time 107.5: “It’s incredibly important that businesses in the local area support us and we have been really lucky.
“We’re going to be doing the £50 Challenge again next year, and we hope we’ll raise even more money.”Tags: Havering, Saint Francis Hospice
