During a rally in London yesterday, Suzanne Hedges said “the justice system needs to change” and “we need to do something now” about knife crime.
She was speaking during the Operation Shutdown demonstration, which marched from Downing Street to Westminster Bridge.
Ricky was stabbed to death outside his home in Marks Gate, Chadwell Heath in September 2016. He was just 27-years-old.
Tommy Roome was found guilty of Ricky’s manslaughter and sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment.
A second person was cleared of being involved in the fatal stabbing.
Suzanne told the crowd yesterday, “While one of them is in prison, cosied up, watching tv, getting three meals a day, trainers sent in, all good things … my son is six feet in the ground. All he is now is a name and a number.
“As a mum, ’til the day I die, I will never, ever let anybody forget my son. His name will live forever.”
