Barbara Brand spent a month in hospital after the collision in Mascalls Lane, Great Warley, a year ago today.
The occupant of the other car, a Vauxhall Astra, fled the scene.
Investigators are trying to trace Flavio Tortore, 30, who was last known to be living in Romford.
Police believe he may have been working in the building trade but also think Flavio Tortore may been an alias.
In a statement, Essex Police said: “A number of arrests have been made in connection with this investigation so far.
“A 27-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, has since been released without charge.
“A 21-year-old man from Hornchurch, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.”
