Ardleigh Green woman delivers more policing petition to Downing Street

A woman from Ardleigh Green is delivering a petition to Downing Street today calling for more policing.

Marie West Stone’s petition blaming cuts and a lack funding for increasing crime has been signed by more than 10,000 residents and is to be debated in the Commons.

Marie started the petition four weeks ago and says: “I’m hoping to get more police presence of our streets to make our community feel safer and for our children,”

“When you’re driving too fast in the car if you see a policeman you slow down. If a policeman could stop a potential mugging, knife crime or burglary with their presence then it might help our community and children be less vulnerable.”

Marie’s been praised by Keith Prince, London Assembly member for Havering and Redbridge who says:  “This petition goes to show that people across Havering and London as a whole are crying out for more bobbies on the beat. As the local Assembly Member, I am working hard to convince not only the Mayor but also the Government that more police officers are required to fight London’s crime epidemic.

“At City Hall my Conservative colleagues and I have put forward a fully-costed plan for how the Mayor could cut the waste, spin and bureaucracy and use the savings to put 1,378 police officers on London’s streets. It is clear that residents across Havering want more police officers, not press officers, so it is deeply disappointing that Sadiq Khan rejected our plans. Romford MP Andrew Rosindell and I made this point to the Deputy Mayor for Crime, Sophie Linden, when we met with her earlier today.”
