Car hits lamp post in Romford

Police are appealing for information after a car hit a lamp post in Romford.

London Road had to be closed this morning after the street light collapsed following the collision, which happened just before 5am near the Cotleigh Road junction.

It is believed that the vehicle involved had earlier made off from police in Chadwell Heath.

Officers are trying to trace the driver, who reportedly fled the vehicle when it hit the lamp post.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Havering Police on 101.

Found abandoned in London Road, Romford. Driver and passengers decamped. Vehicle well known to be involved in criminal activity.

The lamp post has since been “made safe” according to a police spokesperson.
