The O’s boss guided them back into the football league after they won the National League last season.
In a statement, Orient said: “Leyton Orient can confirm Head Coach Justin Edinburgh was taken to a local hospital on Monday morning after being taken ill unexpectedly.
“The club will be making no further comment at this time and requests that his family’s privacy is respected.”
Edinburgh had reportedly been in Madrid at the weekend to watch the Champions League final.
Fans, former players and other clubs have sent messages of support for Edinburgh.
