Police found the victim suffering from a gunshot injury in Loxford Lane after being called to reports of shots fired at around 11.40pm yesterday.
He was shot in the arm while sitting in his vehicle, according to a police spokesperson.
The victim then chased the suspect and was stabbed.
Emergency services rushed the 19-year-old to an east London hospital where he is being treated.
His injuries are not life threatening or life changing.
Officers were called to reports of a second shooting in High Road, Ilford, a short time later.
There were no reported injuries following this incident but they did find evidence a firearm had been discharged.
Both incidents are being treated as linked.
A large cordon remains in place and there is a road closure in High Road while detectives investigate.
