The incident happened at the store in Station Lane yesterday (Sunday, 4 August), leaving the woman working there shocked and upset.
Her family claim she was then asked by the franchise owner to pay £240, but Costa Coffee has denied this.
When asked by Time 107.5 about the robbery, a spokesperson for the brand said: “We can confirm that an incident took place at the Costa Coffee store in Upminster on Sunday 4 August.
“We have not asked any of our team members to reimburse the store and are working with the police to support their investigations.”
The alleged incident has sparked an angry reaction on social media, after the staff member’s mum posted about it on Facebook.
Costa Coffee has responded to many of the comments made towards the organisation.
Hi Terry, we can confirm that we have not asked any of our team members to reimburse the store and are working with the police to support their investigations. ^Lauren
