Police have discovered cannabis plants worth more than £1 million inside an abandoned hospital in Goodmayes.

Officers found more than 1,000 plants inside the derelict Mayesbrook Clinic in Goodmayes Lane, on Thursday, 8 August.

They described it as a “sophisticated cannabis farming system” with more than 30 rooms.

The site is located next to Mayespark Primary School (credit: Google Maps)

Detectives have launched an investigation but no arrests have been made.

“Violence is one of the main by-products of the illegal drug industry, so it is imperative that we continue to tackle this problem head on,” Detective Inspector, Gareth Gilbert.

“We will continue with our enquiries to establish who was the architect of this illegal operation and who was involved in maintaining it.”

The factory has been dismantled.
