Two dead after car hits tree in Loughton

A man has been arrested 

Two people have died and two others are fighting for their lives after a car hit a tree in Loughton.

Police found the car at around 2am this morning in Goldings Hill.

Firefighters worked to release four people who were trapped in the car but it took around two hours to rescue them.

A 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene and two other teenage girls were taken to hospital in life-threatening conditions.

A 21-year-old man from Loughton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.

He was taken to hospital, where he currently remains for treatment to minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

In a statement, Essex Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses who saw what happened, or saw a silver BMW M3 driving in the Loughton and Epping areas in the early hours of this morning.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who was driving in the area who has dash cam footage, or anyone who has CCTV.”
