The officer suffered a broken bone in her hand
She narrowly avoided being hit by a passing car in the struggle but was left with a broken bone in her hand during the incident last week.
The officer was responding to reports of a pedestrian walking along the road in Thurrock at around 3.30am on Monday, 26 August.
The man had been seen near to the central reservation and crossed from one carriageway to the other
When she and other officers tried to bring the man to safety, a tussle ensued resulting in the officer being injured.
A 49-year-old man from the Isle of Dogs was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and has since been released under investigation.
