Investigation after police officer “thrown into live lane” of A13 in Thurrock

The officer suffered a broken bone in her hand

An investigation has been launched after a police officer was thrown into a live lane of traffic on the A13.

She narrowly avoided being hit by a passing car in the struggle but was left with a broken bone in her hand during the incident last week.

The officer was responding to reports of a pedestrian walking along the road in Thurrock at around 3.30am on Monday, 26 August.

The man had been seen near to the central reservation and crossed from one carriageway to the other

When she and other officers tried to bring the man to safety, a tussle ensued resulting in the officer being injured.

A 49-year-old man from the Isle of Dogs was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and has since been released under investigation.

Anyone who was driving through the scene at the time and has dash cam footage, or who saw any of the incidents mentioned above, is urged to call DC James Gray at Grays CID as soon as possible.
