Officers were called to a pub in South Street at around 10.35am this morning, after receiving reports of “a possible firearm.”
Police, including specialist firearms officers attended, according to a Met Police spokesperson.
They said: “A male was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm. He was taken to an east London hospital as a precaution from where he will be taken to an east London police station.
“A firearm, believed to be an air rifle, was recovered.”
Witnesses say the officers were seen surrounding a white car in Atlanta Boulevard during the incident.
Police say they are continuing with the enquiries.
