Damian White has been the Havering Council leader since May 2018
Mr. White was selected by the local branch of the Conservatives to stand against the incumbent, Labour’s Jon Cruddas, in a future vote.
Mr. Cruddas has held the seat, which straddles the boroughs of Barking and Dagenham and Havering, since 2010 – the year the seat was created.
Prior to that, he had been the Member of Parliament for Dagenham since 2001.
Cllr White became the leader of Havering Council in May 2018.
Speaking to Time 107.5 last week, prior to his selection, he said: “Hopefully I will be successful, in which case I’ll be able to represent those residents as well, should I be subsequently elected.”
