There will be a pink stall promoting breast care awareness month in the Liberty Shopping Centre today
InHealth, which handles screening tests in outer north-east London, will have staff on hand to answer questions from the public and also highlight the importance of being screened every three years.
Bola Eniola, superintendent radiographer at InHealth, said: “If you attend a screening every three years, as we provide, we can detect subtle changes in your breast quite quickly before it becomes a lump and becomes a problem.”
Around 55,000 women and 370 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK, according to the charity Breast Cancer Now.
“What we find is there is a small percentage of ladies who don’t attend,” said Marion Muwanga, the InHealth service manager.
“The breast screening service is meant for early detection. We’re putting the message out there to encourage everyone who gets an appointment to turn up for their screening.”
Breast care nurses and other members of their breast screening team will be available to answer any questions you may have about the service or breast health in general.
“There will be lots of pink and this is just promoting breast care awareness month, which is the month of October,” added Marion.
The event is running from 10am to 2pm.
