Hodge celebrates winning last night’s vote
The outspoken critic of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was forced to face a vote of local party members last night.
Competing against three other candidates, Dame Margaret got more than half of the first round votes and will be the party’s candidate at the next general election.
Last year, Hodge made headlines when she called Corbyn an “antisemite and a racist”, leading to her being briefly suspended from Labour.
She was reinstated soon after but, last month, Labour members in Barking voted to hold a selection process for their candidate at the next general election.
That will now be Hodge, who has represented the constituency since 1994.
