Annual film festival prepares to launch in Romford

The festival will feature a screening of Kat and The Band.

Romford’s fourth annual film festival is preparing to launch at Premiere Cinemas in The Mercury Shopping Centre.

The event will run from 6th-11th May, starting with a networking event and a screening of Kat and The Band starring Ella Hunt, Dougie Poynter, Rufus Hound and Badly Drawn Boy.

The festival features many genres including horror, documentaries, light-hearted and topical features.

A series of films on topical themes will look at dementia, depression, autism, discrimination, sexuality, xenophobia and domestic abuse.

Local talent will be featured, with 13 movies shot very close to the town and a further eight that have specific ties with Romford.

These include comedy, Next In Line and Cactus Boy, shot by Romford’s Chris Brake.

As several of the films are yet to be certified, there’s an 18+ age certificate on the festival.

The festival’s director, Spencer Hawken said: “The line up is the best we’ve ever had.

“Our movies include the Oscar Winning Susan Sarandon, 80’s girl next door Daphne Zuniga and British legend Jane Asher heading up the pack.

“It doesn’t end there…Alison Steadman, James Cosmo, Ella Hunt, Dougie Poynter, Dey Young, Natasha Gregson Wagner, Caroline Williams, Lloyd Kaufman, Tom Atkins, Tamer Hassan, Natasha Henstridge, Kevin Sorbo, Eric Roberts and Jasmine Waltz are some of the legendary names in this year’s movie offerings, some of whom will be in attendance.”

“Somehow, we’ve managed to get the perfect blend of everything and it all pieces together so nicely; there’s a real and genuine flow through all of this year’s features.

He told Time 107.5: “We’ve got people who come year in year out, and they will literally sit there through every single film, watch it, soak it up and cast opinion.”

The festival is open daily from 10am until late, until the closing ceremony on Monday, 11 May at 7.30pm.

Festival tickets are on sale at Premiere Cinemas and the list of films currently announced can be found here.

Tickets are currently on sale for full festival and day passes. This is £30 for the full pass or £10 per day, individual sessions are £4 each.
