Wes Streeting is asking for people to volunteer their time to help the vulnerable (credit: David Woolfall)
Wes Streeting is putting together a database of those in a position to help with voluntary work, such as ensuring the elderly have the supplies they need.
“I’m particularly worried about some of the older people in our community who have been turning up for their weekly shop and staring at a load of empty shelves,” he told Time 107.5.
“All of us can be good neighbours. I’m sure we all know people on our street that we might be worried about. Sometimes doing simple things like getting the basics in can really be helpful.”
Wes says he wants to assist the most vulnerable in society, such as people with underlying health conditions, pregnant women and people over the age of 70.
He has advised people in those categories to limit their social contact.
Yesterday, the number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Redbridge doubled from two to four.
“People should be worried and people should be now taking active steps to protect themselves, their families and the wider community from the risks of Coronavirus,” added Wes. “Particularly given have prevalent the virus is across London.”
