Keelan made his mum and dad very proud by submitting a design of a large rainbow to the Daily Mirror. Above the picture he wrote ‘after the storm comes a… rainbow’.
His father Daniel Madden is a multi-disciplinary team coordinator for the Urology team at King George Hospital while his mother Yvette works for the London Ambulance Service.
Daniel, 42, of High Street, explained how his son ended up entering the contest: “Keelan’s nan saw the competition in the paper to design a rainbow poster for the NHS and said he should enter.
“He loves rainbows – it’s why he always wears bright colours, so he really enjoyed doing it. When we found out he’d won and his poster would be printed as a pull-out in the paper for people to put up we were amazed, and so proud!”
Keelan’s design was published as a pull-out on Thursday, 16 April.
“We found out the day before it was going to be published in the paper and when we told him he was over the moon,” added Daniel.
“While he’s out of school and the normal routine we’re trying to keep his education going, and also make it fun for him, so something like this was really good for keeping him busy.”
