He was catching some rays between Grays and Chafford Hundred stations but rail workers who saw his body initially reported no signs of life.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police confirmed they were called to the track near London Road in West Thurrock at around 1.15pm on Monday, 1 June.
“Words of advice were given about the dangers of the railway,” they said.
Yesterday we had a call about a body within the railway boundary.
Railway workers could only see a pair of feet but reported no signs of life.
Rushing to the scene officers found a man in his late 30s enjoying some nude sunbathing.
