Kalvin Allen, 24, from Dereham Place, was one of three men who burgled a house in Billericay Road, Herongate, on Sunday, 8 March.
Shortly before it took place, witnesses saw Allen drive to the scene in a dark car with two other suspects.
They got out of the vehicle and forced open a window to break into a property while Allen remained outside. Fortunately, nothing was stolen.
The next day, officers spotted a stolen Vauxhall Insignia in the Ongar and Abridge area. It had been taken from a house in Basildon on Wednesday, 8 January.
They tried to stop the vehicle but the driver, Allen, ignored them and carried on.
A police chase ensued in which the car was seen driving at 50mph in a 30mph zone before driving the wrong way around a roundabout.
Allen also drove through stationary traffic, damaging two vehicles, and nearly hit two police officers who were on patrol in the area at the time.
Eventually the car crashed into a railing in Pettits Lane, Romford, and the occupants were arrested.
Allen pleaded guilty to the burglary in Herongate, stealing the car in Basildon and two counts of driving while disqualified and without insurance.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Basildon Crown Court on Friday, 29 May. This included six months for breaching a suspended sentence.
Allen has also been banned from driving for 21 months and cannot drive again until he has passed an extended driving test.
“Kalvin Allen was not only involved in a burglary – which is an invasive and distressing crime – but he put people at risk through the manner of his driving while trying to evade police,” said PC Jonathan Stephenson.Tags: Havering, Collier Row
