Terrence Purkis hit two police cars while trying to escape
Officers initially became suspicious of a black Landrover Freelander in Bradleigh Avenue on Saturday, 13 June.
They stopped the vehicle but the driver allegedly refused to get out of the car and provide a breathe test sample.
The man was arrested on suspicion of failing to cooperate with a preliminary tests and officers tried to get him out of the vehicle.
However, the suspect reportedly resisted arrested and tried to drive off but quickly collided with two police cars.
Terrence Purkis, 33, of Bradleigh Avenue, appeared at Southend Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 June.
He is next due to appear at Basildon Court on Wednesday, 15 July charged with dangerous driving, criminal damage, escape from lawful custody, assault with intent to resist arrest and failing to cooperate with a preliminary test.
A 30-year-old woman from Grays has also been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail.
