East Ham man charged for assault at unlicensed music event

Police were called to the unlincensed music event on Friday night

An 18-year-old man from East Ham has been charged for assaulting an emergency worker at an unlicensed music event in Hackney.

Devonte Perkins, of Sibley Grove, was charged with assaulting an emergency worker and Section 4 Public Order Act 1986 (using threatening, abusive, insulting words of behaviour to cause fear of violence).

Police were called to the event on Woodberry Down Estate, on Friday around 11pm, after reports of noise and anti-social behaviour.

A Dispersal Zone was authorised under s35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Specially trained public order police entered the estate to disperse the group but faced hostility and violence.

Items including canisters, bottles and a bicycle were thrown at officers.

A second man from Uxbridge has also been charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

Brandon Elabor, 18, of Tanglewood Close has been bailed to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 11 September.

Devonte is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court today.
