Man charged with terrorism offence following Goodmayes police raid

Sahayb Aweys Munye Abu was arrested by officers from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command

A 27-year-old man has been charged with a terrorism offence following police raids in Goodmayes.

Sahayb Aweys Munye Abu, of east London, has been charged with preparation of terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Armed officers investigating suspected terrorism offences raided an address in Green Lane and another in east London at around 1.40pm on Thursday, 9 July. 

No shots were fired although loud bangs were heard in the area at the time.

A third warrant was executed at the same time at an address in Leicestershire.

Four people in total were detained during the raids. They were three men, aged 27, 31, and 32, and a 17-year-old boy.

Officers from The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command were previously granted a warrant of further detention for the 31-year-old man, allowing them to detain him until yesterday.

He has now been released without charge.

The 32-year-old man was previously released without charge on Thursday, 16 July and the teen was released the following day.

Sahayb Aweys Munye Abu has been remanded to appear in court via video link today.
