A large amount of mixed recyclables caught fire in a derelict landfill site in Launders Lane shortly before 1.20pm on Friday, 31 July.
The blaze covered an area of 100 square metres and most of the recyclables were destroyed by the fire.
“Crews worked hard in very hot, challenging conditions to tackle this fire which covers a significant area,” said Station Commander Verona Clarke.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control at 8.05pm and remained at the scene to dampen down deep seated pockets of fire.
Crews from Havering, Poplar, Barking, Hornchurch, Wennington and surrounding fire stations were called to the scene, along with firefighters from the Essex Fire and Rescue service.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
