The team consists of 11 police officers and six council enforcement officers who will all be providing high visibility evening and late-night patrols seven days a week.
They will be targeting prostitution, street scammers, bogus traders, street drinkers and aggressive beggars in Ilford Lane.
It is the first taskforce of its kind to be sanctioned in the borough and is jointly funded by Redbridge Council and the Metropolitan Police.
“Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is a top priority for our council and local people,” said the Leader of Redbridge Council, Councillor Jas Athwal
“We’re committed to investing in extra resources on the frontline of the fight against criminal behaviour.
“The team are now patrolling our streets, increasing our capacity to address some of the biggest concerns in our community.
“They also have greater powers to help stamp out the illegal elements in and around Ilford Town Centre – making them a unique asset to our borough.”
The taskforce will work closely with the council’s CCTV team and licensing enforcement unit to crackdown on crime.
