Romford man charged over claims about missing child in Beckton

The suspect is due in court today

A man from Romford has been charged with wasting police time after allegedly claiming that his car was stolen from Beckton while a child was inside.

Police were called by a person who said it happened at Beckton Triangle retail park yesterday afternoon, prompting an investigation.

The car was later recovered and the child was found safe and well elsewhere.

Jamal Thomas, 23, of South Street, is due to appear this afternoon via video-link at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court.

He is also charged with perverting the course of justice.
