New research from price comparison website, MoneySuperMarket, has revealed that Ilford has the highest rate of reported car thefts in the UK, followed by Romford second.
Data was analysed from over 5.8million car insurance enquiries made through the site between Monday, 1 July 2019 and Tuesday, 30 June 2020.
The IG postcode, which covers Redbridge, Barking, and parts of Epping Forest, had a car theft rate of 20.3 per 1000 enquiries.
RM came second with 19.1.
East London’s E postal area was ninth on the ‘most targeted areas’ list with a theft rate of 12.15.
Car insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, Dave Merrick said: “When comparing car insurance quotes, providers will take your location into account which may impact the cost of your premiums.
“Fully comprehensive car insurance policies are a good option for drivers to protect themselves from theft, accidental damages, and loss of personal items.
“Having the right car insurance in place for your needs will help minimise the financial impact of theft.
“If your policy is up for renewal, make sure you shop around for the best deal – doing so can save you up to £287.163”

It is the second year in a row that the IG and RM postcodes have topped the list.
