Rainham fires: Havering Council working with site owner to stop blazes

The site near Launders Lane was the scene of eight fires between the start of July and early September

Havering Council says it is working with the owner of a site in Rainham to stop fires repeatedly breaking out.

The London Fire Brigade has responded to eight separate blazes at a derelict landfill site in Launders Lane since the start of July.

A spokesperson for Havering Council said an enforcement notice was served against the site owner, but they have not complied.

The spokesperson told Time 107.5FM: “They (the site owner) are working with our planning department to come up with a scheme that is acceptable to us. Therefore, for the time being, we are not considering enforcement proceedings.”

The Environment Agency said it had monitored the most recent fire, on Friday, 11 September, but it had no impact on the local air quality.
