The collision between two cars, a black BMW X5 and a red Peugeot 308 taxi, happened in Brentwood Road (the A128) at the junction with Conway’s Road (the B188) at around 4am this morning.
Police say the taxi driver, a man from Grays, passed away at the scene
The driver of the BMW left before emergency services arrived.
Sadly we can confirm the Peugeot driver has died.
The BMW driver left the scene before emergency services arrived. The car was left behind.
We are continuing our search for the driver and have been progressing our enquiries throughout the day.

In a statement, Essex Police said: “We are continuing our search for the driver of the BMW and anyone else who may have been in that car.
“We have been progressing our enquiries throughout the day and would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision and saw anyone leaving the scene.
“We’d also like to speak to drivers who were in the area at the time and saw a black BMW X5 before the collision, or saw anyone on foot or who may have been picked up by a vehicle in the area of Conways Road at around the time.”
