It will be built in Charteris Car Park tomorrow and piloted on Friday and Saturday, with reduced opening hours between 10am and 5pm.
From Sunday, the centre will be open from 8am until 8pm every day. It is the third testing facility to be opened in Redbridge.
“Redbridge has the highest Covid-19 infection rates in London and we need to ensure our residents can get tested to help stop the spread,” said Redbridge Council leader, Cllr Jas Athwal.
“We want every resident in the borough to be able to access a testing centre nearby, so I am pleased that we have made this happen.
“However, we can’t ignore the fact that despite doing everything we can to secure additional testing for the borough, we are in desperate need of more lab testing capacity to process test results quickly, and this is something we will continue to raise with government as a priority.”
Residents with Covid-19 symptoms, such as a new continuous cough, are urged to get tested at their nearest centre.
“Testing stops the spread and can save lives,” added deputy leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Kam Rai.
“We’ve been clear with the Government that no matter the cost to the council testing must be accessible across Redbridge so local people are never far away from a testing centre, should they need one.”
