Time 107.5FM launches Give a Child a Christmas 2020

Gifts donated to the campaign in 2018

Time 107.5FM has launched its 2020 Give a Child a Christmas campaign, with support from Romford BID and GBP Estates.

The annual campaign encourages listeners to donate toys and presents for under-privileged children across Havering, Barking & Dagenham, and Redbridge, but 2020 will be different from previous years.

With the presence of Covid-19 still a big concern for many people, we want to make it possible for everyone to take part, even if they don’t want to go out shopping.

Therefore, we are asking people to donate money to our fundraising page if they do not feel comfortable bringing presents to us.

The fundraising page is being managed by Romford BID, which will use the donations to buy gifts from local retailers.

And the BID has negotiated a discount with some stores in Romford, meaning monetary donations will be worth more than the same amount of money spent on a gift.

The BID will also match some of the donations, increasing the total we have to spend on presents.

Julie Frost, from Romford BID said: “This Christmas is going to be different for a lot of people. We’re also very aware that there will be a number of children that won’t get the gifts they really wanted.

“Families are struggling, people are losing their jobs, and finances are difficult … this is our way of being able to help our community this Christmas.

“We really want to give children a great Christmas this year, so to be able to raise some more money and put a smile on their faces will be really great.

You can donate to the campaign on our GoFundMe page.

Presents will still be accepted at our studio and at GBP Estates in Victoria Road, Romford.

Gary Taylor, from GBP Estates, said: “The most important thing is that we get as many presents for the community as possible. Together, we have to help people who are the most vulnerable, and a little present goes a long way.”

Lorna Waters, Station Manager at Time 107.5FM, said: “We’re delighted to be able to hold our Give a Child a Christmas campaign once again. The unique challenges of 2020 mean it will be different to previous years but we hope the donation page coupled with the option to bring gifts to either ourselves or our good friends at GBP Estates will help make it as successful as previous years.

“We know there will be even more demand than usual for presents and we would be very grateful for any money you can spare. Thanks to the Romford BID, who will match some of the funding, your donations will worth more than usual.

“We are also grateful to the many wonderful retailers who are offering us a discount, ensuring every penny will be well spent and we can provide gifts for as many children as possible.”
