Viorel Stefan was stabbed in the back last December
Vasile Firanda, 60, drunkenly stabbed Viorel Stefan at an address in Marlborough Road in December 2019.
Paramedics found Viorel, 49, suffering from knife wounds to the back. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead a short while later.
A 55-year-old woman was also stabbed in the hand in the violent attack.
All of the people at the party were Romanian, but Viorel and one of the other attendees are from a region where Ukranian is spoken.
Firanda was enraged when they began speaking in their mother tongue and he could not follow their conversation.
An argument broke out and Firanda launched his vicious assault, twice stabbing Viorel and inflicting catastrophic injuries.
Firanda, of Marlborough Road, appeared at Woolwich Crown Court today and pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mr. Stefan and grievous bodily harm [GBH] against the female victim.
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith said: “This was a sad and needless loss of life.
“A personal affront, fuelled by alcohol, so quickly became murderously violent.
“It is unlikely that we will ever know the full details of the events that led to the death of Viorel Stefan as the accounts provided by the defendant were changing and conflicting as our investigation progressed.
“What is clear is that the wounds that killed Mr Stefan were undoubtedly inflicted by Vasile Firanda and he will now face many years in prison as a result.”
He is due to be sentenced at the same court on Friday, 8 January 2021.
