The Romford Christmas light switch-on in 2018
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, traditional switch-on events cannot take place and will be replaced with virtual ones instead.
Three Romford Christmas events will take place tomorrow evening between 6.30pm and 7.40pm. They will include a sneak peek at the Brookside Theatre’s panto, The Wizard of Oz, as well as a dance by Lit Youth and a performance by Rae Harding who was seen on this year’s The Voice Kids.
Other events will include a performance by Hornchurch singer Charlotte Ambrose and Christmas party dances with favourite children’s characters from Havering Music School.
“Each year thousands of residents enjoy our Christmas switch-on events across the borough,” said the Mayor of Havering, Councillor John Mylod. “It’s disappointing that this year’s traditional events cannot go ahead, but the safety of our residents must come first.
“Whilst this year we will be celebrating the start of the festive period differently, with virtual events for the whole family to enjoy, our wonderful Christmas lights and trees will still be up across the borough for everyone to enjoy.
“I wish all residents a safe and COVID-free Christmas. While this year is anything but normal, I hope everybody gets to spend time with their families and loved ones, whether in person or virtually. Please remember to stick to the rules to keep yourselves and your loved ones safe.”
More information about other virtual events taking place in the borough is expected to be published here soon.
