The new space will make patients much more comfortable (credit: BHRUT)
It is expected to help ambulance crews hand over patients to the hospital’s emergency department more quickly.
Last week, the hospital began treating some Covid-19 patients in the back of ambulances because not enough beds were available.
The new centre will ensure patients do not need to be in ambulances any longer than necessary and allow ambulance crews to attend other emergencies faster.
It will be fitted with cubicles for patients on trolleys and provide a comfortable space .
White tents have already been set up at the back of the hospital to provide a covered walkway to the ambulance receiving centre.
Queen’s Hospital is expected to announce when it will open soon.
