An old hospital building in Grays Court has been regenerated to provide 59 temporary accommodation rooms for homeless people in the borough.
It was developed by Be First and will come with a GP out-of-hours service and a new community space.
The community space will be used for a variety of things such as a cooking school, careers fairs, family learning opportunities, and training facilities.
United Living built the properties and project manager Paul Fleming said it was a “fantastic project to be a part of”.
“The United living team that has delivered this project, feel extremely proud to have been able to deliver this much needed, quality emergency accommodation for individuals and families in these troubled times,” said Paul.
“Knowing how hard the pandemic has hit many families, this building can be a lifeline for so many.”
Meanwhile, people have started moving into 92 new properties made for homeless and vulnerable people in Cook Road, Dagenham.
The rooms were built off-site and then delivered, assembled, and completed at the location.
There are 24 one-bedroom flats, 36 two-bedroom flats, and 32 three-bedroom homes which have all been built by Jerram Faulkus.
