Weston Homes has applied to redevelop the Town Quay area, which is along the River Roding and next to Abbey Road.
Many of the properties in the site are going to be demolished and replaced with three new buildings, which will range from seven to eleven storeys in height.
Around 42 per cent of the new homes will be classified as affordable, with 29 being available for London Affordable Rent and 33 being shared ownership units.
Just over 10 per cent of the properties will be three-bedroom homes while 53 per cent will be two-bedroom and 36.7 per cent will be one-bedroom.
Weston Homes agreed to consider increasing spending on a child play space from the planned £22,000 to potentially £50,000 during a meeting of the council’s Planning Committee.
The developer also intends to work on space for cycle and refuse storage sites as well as a car park.
The aim of the project is to connect the River Roding to Barking town centre and for the Town Quay area to become the focal point of a new community around the river.
This will be supported by a pedestrianised plaza and a riverside walk.
