Emergency services were called to Rushden Gardens on Friday, 9 April at 10.51am where a woman, aged in her 80s, was found unconscious.
Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before midday.
Mark Herman, 54, of Rushden Gardens, was charged on Saturday, 10 April and is due in court later today.
A formal identification has yet to take place, but detectives are confident that the woman is Loretta Herman.
The woman’s family have been informed.
A post-mortem examination has confirmed that the cause of her death was compression to the neck.
