Tesco and Weston Homes are looking to build on part of the shop’s car park, which Tesco now considers surplus.
Initial proposals for the project, called ‘Atrium’, suggest 28 of the 89 properties would be classified as affordable.
They would initially be offered to local residents with a discount of 20 per cent off the market value.
All of the homes will reportedly come with private balconies or terraces and will also have access to 1,000 sqm of communal landscaped gardens.
There are plans for an enclosed car park which would provide one space for each of the 89 homes.
Trees would also be planted along public footpaths in Bryant Avenue and Whitelands Way, which line the site.
A Tesco carwash that is currently on the site will be retained and relocated.
Weston Homes has launched a community consultation asking for feedback on the initial designs.
The property developer is expected to submit a formal planning application to the local council in mid-2021.
If you would like to give feedback on the plans, you can do so online here.
