Inspectors found toys which put kids at risk of choking and asphyxiation when they visited JL Supplies Ltd, based in Horndon-on-the-Hill.
They also discovered the company had products without safety documentation and proper labelling.
Officers repeatedly tried to work with them to ensure they complied with their legal obligations to import and supply safe goods but they failed to act on the advice which was given.
Company director Jonathon Laidlaw pleaded guilty to importing and supplying unsafe toys that could have hurt children at Southend Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 14 April.
He was fined £1,400 and ordered to pay £1,000 costs and a £140 victim surcharge. JL Supplies Ltd was fined £600 and ordered to pay £937 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
Combined it amounts to more than £4,100.
