Shops in Romford, Stratford and Thurrock will all shut “in a phased manner” between August and September this year.
The retailer said it intends to maintain its online business, adding “we want to meet our customers where they are shopping.”
It is unclear how many people work for the fashion giant in the UK and Ireland but it is estimated to be more than 1,000.
“We will provide support and transition assistance for our colleagues as we look to wind down stores,” said a spokesperson for the retailer.
“Gap has served customers in the United Kingdom since 1987 and the Republic of Ireland since 2006. We are keen to maintain our presence in these markets.”
The decision has been made following a strategic review of the company’s operations in Europe.
It has already found a partner to manage its shops in France and is expected to announce more news about Italy soon.
