Detectives issue appeal after boy stabbed to death in Woolwich

Footage of the incident has been shared on social media 

Police are appealing for information after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Woolwich. 

The teenager was attacked in Woolwich New Road at around 5.20pm on Monday, 5 July. 

Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene less than an hour later. 

The victim’s next of kin have been informed but he has not yet been formally identified. 

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, leading the investigation, said: “We are aware of footage relating to this murder being posted on social media and remind the public that any video or images may be very important to our investigation.

“If you have footage relating to this incident please don’t post it on social media. Your footage could be vital evidence in our investigation so please provide it to us rather than making it public.

“The victim’s family is reeling from the shock of his death. Please consider their feelings and respect their privacy as they struggle to come to terms with their loss.”

A 15-year-old boy who later went to hospital with a stab wound was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has since been released with no further action.
