Scott Chapman admitted to several offences (Credit: Essex Police)
Police received intelligence reports the internet at an address in Hume Close was being used to view indecent images of children in late 2019.
They carried out a warrant at the property on 4 December 2019 and seized a mobile phone with more than 550 indecent pictures on it.
The device belonged to Scott Chapman, 24, who also posed as a young girl and sent indecent images to other people through social media.
He was charged with three counts of making indecent images of children and three counts of distributing indecent pictures of children.
Chapman admitted to the offences and was sentenced to seven years in prison at Basildon Crown Court last week.
PC Emma Edwards said: “Scott Chapman is paedophile who used social media to pretend to be a child in order to exploit children for his own gratification.
“He is a dangerous predator who poses a very real risk to children and I’m pleased we’ve been able to put him behind bars.
“Social media is great for keeping in touch with family and friends but sadly there are those who will try to exploit it to put children at risk.”
