Detectives suspect he injured a woman and child outside The Nag’s Head pub in Brentwood shortly before 1.50pm on Monday, 12 July.
Paramedics treated both victims at the scene before taking them to hospital. Their injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers investigating the incident identified a suspect who they believe knows both the woman and child.
They arrested the 26-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder today.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
